Frequently asked questions
Is there one trademark for all GCC countries?
No. The GCC trademark law harmonises the rules, but it is not a single registration. Each of the six states registers trademarks separately.
Can I use the Madrid Protocol for the Gulf?
Bahrain, Oman, Qatar and the UAE are Madrid members, and Saudi Arabia joined on 8 October 2026. Kuwait is not a member, so it needs a direct filing. Madrid designations depend on your Indian base mark for five years.
Why do GCC filings cost more?
Official fees are high. The UAE and Saudi Arabia each charge about 6,500 in local currency per class, and most Gulf offices accept one class per application.
How long does it take?
Often four to twelve months depending on the office, if there are no objections or oppositions.
