Frequently asked questions

Does one EU trademark cover all of Europe?

It covers all 27 EU member states. It does not cover the UK, Switzerland, Norway or Türkiye, which each need their own filing.

What are the official fees?

EUIPO: EUR 850 for the first class, EUR 50 for the second and EUR 150 for each further class. UKIPO: GBP 205 for the first class and GBP 60 for each additional class, from 1 April 2026.

Is an EU trademark risky?

It is one registration, so a successful opposition in one member state can block the whole application. Careful drafting of the goods and services reduces that risk.

How long does it take?

EUIPO often registers unopposed marks in five to eight months; the UK often takes four to six.
